CONTENT

1 Timothy 6:6-8 – “But Godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content.”

'STUFF We work all our lives, to buy some stuff... and the first thing we know, we have too much stuff! When we go on vacation-- we have to take some stuff along.. But most of our stuff we have to leave at home! Then we worry about somebody taking our STUFF! When we clean out the attic, we find all kinds of stuff-- some stuff is pretty good, but most of it is simply old stuff! We go to all kinds of sales to look for stuff-- and when we have a little extra money we buy more st...uff -- to make more stuff! We need to eat, but we have to be careful to buy the right stuff. Some of the stuff we buy isn't always good for us! The price of stuff keeps going up, and nowadays, we don't get much stuff for our money--- but they want us to buy all the stuff that's advertised online, on TV and in every magazine and newspaper.
ONE MORE THING ABOUT STUFF IS: WE CAN'T TAKE IT WITH US WHEN WE DIE!
I think I have enough stuff..... but sometimes I would like some different stuff-- wouldn't you?

THE GAME OF LIFE IS LABORIOUS ~~
IT'S A GAME OF ILLUSIONS AND SECRECY ~~
ONLY WE OURSELVES KNOW IF WE ARE WINNING OR LOSING

Mark 12:41-44 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.
43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

Your word I have treasured and stored in my heart,

MERCY

Jude 1: 17 REMEMBER the [prophetic] words spoken by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. 18 They used to say to you, “In the last days there will be SCOFFERS, following after their own ungodly passions.” 19 These are the ones who are [agitators] causing DIVISIONS—worldly-minded [secular, unspiritual, carnal, merely sensual—unsaved], devoid of the Spirit. 20 But you, beloved, build yourselves up on [the foundation of] your most holy faith [continually progress, RISE like an ...edifice higher and higher], PRAY in the Holy Spirit, 21 and keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously and looking forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ [which will bring you] to eternal life. 22 And HAVE MERCY on some, who are doubting; 23 save others, SNATCHING THEM OUT OF THE FIRE; and on some have mercy but with fear, loathing even the clothing spotted and polluted by their shameless immoral freedom.

'He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches He who overcomes will not be hurt by the second death.'
 Revelation 2:11

Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years. Revelation 20:6

Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire This is the second death, the lake of fire. Revelation 20:14

"But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death." Revelation 21:8

Forgive me Lord, when I lose confidence in myself or others; before I have given time, space, and tender care to see weeds pulled out and each blossom grow fragrant in their own unique way.

Who Am I --Elvis Presley
Who Am I?
When I think of how He came so far from glory
Came to dwell among the lowly such as I
To suffer shame and such disgrace...
On Mount Calvary take my place
Then I ask myself this question
Who am I?

Who am I that The King would bleed and die for
Who am I that He would pray not my will, Thy Lord
The answer I may never know
Why He ever loved me so
But to that old rugged cross He'd go
For who am I?
When I'm reminded of His words
I'll leave Him never
If you'll be true I'll give to you life forever
Oh I wonder what I could have done
To deserve God's only Son
To fight my battles until they're won
For who am I?
Who am I that The King would bleed and die for
Who am I that He would pray not my will, Thy Lord
The answer I may never know
Why He ever loved me so
But to that old rugged cross He'd go
For who am I?
But to an old rugged cross He'd go for, who am I?

Who Am I - Casting Crowns (w/ lyrics)
Who Am I
Who am I, that the lord of all the earth
Would care to know my name
Would care to feel my hurt?...
Who am I, that the bright and morning star
Would choose to light the way
For my ever wandering heart?

Not because of who I am
But because of what you've done
Not because of what I've done
But because of who you are
I am a flower quickly fading
Here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed in the ocean
A vapor in the wind
Still you hear me when I'm calling
Lord, you catch me when I'm falling
And you've told me who I am
I am yours
Who am I, that the eyes that see my sin
Would look on me with love
And watch me rise again?
Who am I, that the voice that calmed the sea
Would call out through the rain
And calm the storm in me?
Not because of who I am
But because of what you've done
Not because of what I've done
But because of who you are
I am a flower quickly fading
Here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed in the ocean
A vapor in the wind
Still you hear me when I'm calling
Lord, you catch me when I'm falling
And you've told me who I am
I am yours
Not because of who I am
But because of what you've done
Not because of what I've done
But because of who you are
I am a flower quickly fading
Here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed in the ocean
A vapor in the wind
Still you hear me when I'm calling
Lord, you catch me when I'm falling
And you've told me who I am
I am yours
I am yours
I am yours
Whom shall I fear, whom shall I fear?
'Cause I am yours
I am yours

PERSEVERE SUFFERINGS

Blessed [happy, spiritually prosperous, favored by God] is the man who is steadfast under trial and PERSEVERES when tempted; for when he has passed the test and been approved, he will receive the [victor’s] crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. James 1: 12

Romans 5: 3 [with joy] Let us exult in our sufferings and rejoice in our hardships, knowing that hardship (distress, pressure, trouble) produces patient endurance; 4 and endurance, proven character (spiritual maturity); and proven character, hope and confident assurance [of eternal salvation]. 5 Such hope [in God’s promises] never disappoints us, because God’s love has been abundantly poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

HEART EXAM -- PSALM 24

Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

All the ways of a man are clean and innocent in his own eyes [and he may see nothing wrong with his actions],
But the Lord weighs and examines the motives and intents [of the heart and knows the truth].Proverbs 16:2
I, the Lord, search and examine the mind,
I test the heart,
To give to each man according to his ways,
According to the results of his deeds. Jeremiah 17:10
O Lord, you have searched me [thoroughly] and have known me.
Psalm 139:1

Psalm 24

The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness of it,
The world, and those who dwell in it.

For He has founded it upon the seas
And established it upon the streams and the rivers.

Who may ascend onto the mountain of the Lord?
And who may stand in His holy place?

He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to what is false,
Nor has sworn [oaths] deceitfully.

He shall receive a blessing from the Lord,
And righteousness from the God of his salvation.

This is the generation (description) of those who diligently seek Him and require Him as their greatest need,
Who seek Your face, even [as did] Jacob. Selah.

7
Lift up your heads, O gates,
And be lifted up, ancient doors,
That the King of glory may come in.

Who is the King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
The Lord mighty in battle.

Lift up your heads, O gates,
And lift them up, ancient doors,
That the King of glory may come in.
10
Who is [He then] this King of glory?
The Lord of hosts,
He is the King of glory [who rules over all creation with His heavenly armies]. Selah.

HIDDEN TREASURE -- FIELD -- PEARL -- DISCIPLE

“The kingdom of heaven is like a [very precious] treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid again; then in his joy he goes and sells all he has and buys that field [securing the treasure for himself]. Matthew 13:44

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, and upon finding a single pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it. Matthew 13:45-46
Lessons From The Pearl

 Contributed by Rodelio Mallari

1. A PEARL IS THE PRODUCT OF SUFFERING
A. A pearl is formed when an oyster gets a grain of sand trapped in the soft flesh inside its shell. This piece of sand irritates the oyster and it responds by coating the grain with layers of saliva and calcium.
B. The church was formed from the terrible pains and death Christ bore for sinners upon the cross! (Eph. 5:25; Rev. 1:5)

2. A PEARL IS FORMED FROM WORTHLESS MATTER
A. The pearl is formed from all types of junk. Pieces of sand, bone fragments from dead fish, and other wastes on the sea floor.
B. The composition of the church comes out of condemned and hell-bound sinners! (Matt. 9:12-13; Eph. 2:1-3)

3. A PEARL IS A COMPOSITE THING
A. It is a combination of several things. There are at least 3 materials used in forming a pearl – the irritant material, the oyster’s saliva, and calcium.
B. The church is composed of all kinds of people from all races and backgrounds (Gal. 3:26-28). They have one thing in common – salvation by grace through faith in Christ alone!

4. A PEARL GROWS GRADUALLY
A. After a grain of sand enters inside the oyster, it can take the oyster up to 3 years to produce a magnificent pearl.
B. God has slowly and gradually built His church in this world. It has been growing for 2,000 years as the Spirit convicts sinners and come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ (Eph. 2:21-22).

5. A PEARL IS A HIDDEN WORK
A. The pearl grows hidden in the oyster submerged in water.
B. Aside from the physical numerical aspect, no one can truly see the actual spiritual growth of the church. We can only see the visible local church but not the invisible spiritual body which forms the vastness of whole church (Eph. 1:22-23).

6. A PEARL IS A VERY VALUABLE OBJECT
A. Pearls can be worth a fortune. In fact strings of pearls can actually be worth millions of dollars.
B. The church was worth the treasure of heaven to God! He paid the highest price, the very best of Heaven – His beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to save the church from Hell! (Rom. 5:6-8)
C. The church is truly very valuable to the world even when the world does not actually appreciate it. The church serves as a restraining force against evil that will one day sweep over the world. Therefore she is worth all the price and efforts that we need to give to keep her alive, active and strong in the Lord. It is worth all our praying, our giving, our working, our sacrificing. The church is worth all we can give to her!

7. A PEARL IS A UNITY
A. The pearl is the only gem known to man that cannot be cut. Large diamonds are cut and made into several smaller, more valuable stones. The pearl cannot be divided without destroying its natural value and beauty.
B. The local church may be divided in the eyes of man, but the true spiritual church (the true body of Christ made up of both dead and alive in Christ) will ever stand as one (Phil. 1:27).
C. When any local church is divided, it loses its value and beauty to the watching world! Therefore, there is a great need for us to be of one mind and of one accord for testimony’s sake! It doesn’t look good when God’s people cannot get along well!

8. A PEARL REFLECTS LIGHT
A. One of the outstanding qualities of the pearl is its ability to reflect light. The church is called to reflect the true light of the world – the Lord Jesus Christ (John 8:12; 9:5)..
B. The church, like the moon reflecting the light of the sun at night, is to reflect the light of the Lord Jesus Christ to this spiritually darkened world (Phil. 2:15).

Conclusion: And so we have seen that the little pearl teaches several great Bible truths about Christ and His church. Let us learn a lesson from the qualities of the pearl – from its beauty and value to the owner! The next time you see a pearl, meditate on these wonderful truths.

The Rich Young Ruler
Mark 10:17 As He was leaving on His journey, a man ran up and knelt before Him and asked Him, “Good Teacher [You who are essentially good and morally perfect], what shall I do to inherit eternal life [that is, eternal salvation in the Messiah’s kingdom]?” 18 Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is [essentially] good [by nature] except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not testify falsely, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’” 20 And he replied to Him, “Teacher, I have [carefully] kept all these [commandments] since my [d]youth.” 21 Looking at him, Jesus felt a love (high regard, compassion) for him, and He said to him, “You lack one thing: go and sell all your property and give [the money] to the poor, and you will have [abundant] treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me [becoming My disciple, believing and trusting in Me and walking the same path of life that I walk].” 22 But the man was saddened at Jesus’ words, and he left grieving, because he owned much property and had many possessions [which he treasured more than his relationship with God].

RICHES -- BLESSED

"THE GREATEST GOOD YOU CAN DO FOR ANOTHER
IS TO NOT JUST SHARE YOUR RICHES
BUT TO REVEAL TO HIM HIS OWN"

Matthew 19:24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man [who places his faith in wealth and status] to enter the kingdom of God.”

1 Timothy 6:17 As for the rich in this present world, instruct them not to be conceited and arrogant, nor to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly and ceaselessly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 18 Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works..., to be generous, willing to share [with others]. 19 In this way storing up for themselves the enduring riches of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.

20 O Timothy, guard and keep safe the deposit [of godly truth] entrusted to you, turn away from worldly and godless chatter [with its profane, empty words], and the contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge”— 21 which some have professed and by doing so have erred (missed the mark) and strayed from the faith.

Revelation 3: 17 Because you say, “I am rich, and have prospered and grown wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked [without hope and in great need], 18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold that has been heated red hot and refined by fire so that you may become truly rich; and white clothes [representing righteousness] to clothe yourself so that the shame of your nakedness will not be seen; and healing salve to put on your eyes so that you may see. 19 Those whom I [dearly and tenderly] love, I rebuke and discipline [showing them their faults and instructing them]; so be enthusiastic and repent [change your inner self—your old way of thinking, your sinful behavior—seek God’s will].

Matthew 6: 19 “Do not store up for yourselves [material] treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal; 21 for where your treasure is, there your heart [your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centers] will be also.
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body; so if your eye is clear [spiritually perceptive], your whole body will be full of light [benefiting from God’s precepts]. 23 But if your eye is bad [spiritually blind], your whole body will be full of darkness [devoid of God’s precepts]. So if the [very] light inside you [your inner self, your heart, your conscience] is darkness, how great and terrible is that darkness!
24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon [money, possessions, fame, status, or whatever is valued more than the Lord].

The Beatitudes

Matthew 5

1 When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain; and when He was seated, His disciples came to Him.
Then He began to teach them, saying,
“Blessed [spiritually prosperous, happy, to be admired] are the poor in spirit [those devoid of spiritual arrogance, those who regard themselves as insignificant], for theirs is the kingdom of heaven [both now and forever].
“Blessed [forgiven, refreshed by God’s grace] are those who mourn [over their sins and repent], for they will be comforted [when the burden of sin is lifted].
“Blessed [inwardly peaceful, spiritually secure, worthy of respect] are the gentle [the kind-hearted, the sweet-spirited, the self-controlled], for they will inherit the earth.
“Blessed [joyful, nourished by God’s goodness] are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness [those who actively seek right standing with God], for they will be [completely] satisfied.
“Blessed [content, sheltered by God’s promises] are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
“Blessed [anticipating God’s presence, spiritually mature] are the pure in heart [those with integrity, moral courage, and godly character], for they will see God.
“Blessed [spiritually calm with life-joy in God’s favor] are the makers and maintainers of peace, for they will [express His character and] be called the sons of God.
10 “Blessed [comforted by inner peace and God’s love] are those who are persecuted for [c]doing that which is morally right, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven [both now and forever].
11 “Blessed [morally courageous and spiritually alive with life-joy in God’s goodness] are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil things against you because of [your association with] Me. 12 Be glad and exceedingly joyful, for your reward in heaven is great [absolutely inexhaustible]; for in this same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

WORRY NOT

"WORRY IS LIKE A ROCKING CHAIR
IT WILL GIVE YOU SOMETHING TO DO
BUT IT WON'T GET YOU ANYWHERE"

WORRY:
*give way to anxiety or unease; allow one's mind to dwell on difficulty or troubles:
synonyms: fret · be concerned · be anxious · agonize · overthink · brood · panic ·
* a state of anxiety and uncertainty over actual or potential problems:
synonyms: anxiety · perturbation · distress · concern · uneasiness · unease ·

Matthew 6:25-27 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?

Matthew 6:34 “Therefore... do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.“

Luke 12:25 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?
